Vatnahalsen is a station on the Flåm Railway, and the ability to use this train regularly on our runs makes Ski & Train a uniqe experience.
When conditions permit, we´ll make two runs per day from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the Flåm Valley. There are descents for all skill levels, and thanks to the high altitude difference and the transition from mountains to the fjord landscape, every run offers a varied and exciting terrain, ranging from powder skiing down scenic mountainsides to epic forest runs deep into the valley.
The Flåm Railway starts down by the Sognefjord and runs through amazing scenery straight up to Vatnahalsen. This journey is one of the world´s steepest trainlines, and Lonely Planet has named it the best train ride in the world. In the course of one hour, you´re brought upwards along steep rock walls, foaming waterfalls and spectacular tunnels. Many tourists travel around the world to experience this train journey, we are lucky enough to have it as a natural part of our ski run.
Vatnahalsen is only accessible by train (there´s not a road for miles around). In other words, there´s few places better to experience tranquility among spectacular mountains. The Bergen Railway from Oslo to Bergen takes you to Myrdal station which is located right next to Vatnahalsen. In addition, you can take the Flåm Railway from Flåm straight to the lodge. This ride is officially one of the world's most spectacular train journeys, with a panoramic view of the magnificent Norwegian mountain and fjord landscape.
